The Siesta way of life

Posted by julia on 20 Feb 2007 | Tagged as: Spain

What is a siesta? Well, there is the general definition of the word, but what does it really mean to the Spaniards. Spain is a country full of great customs, all of them in one way or another deal with food, parties, and yes the best one of all the SIESTA.

A siesta is referred to the time in the middle of the day usually right after lunch time, where people lay down, close their eyes and rest for about an hour to get ready for the rest of the day. One of the best inventions ever. It simply means taking time off to relax and forget about the world while our bodies recover from the days stress.

From the outside world, this might be looked at as lazy and not productive but many studies show that it is recommended to rest in the middle of the day. A siesta could help reduce cardiovascular diseases, and highly reduces stress.

So, go ahead put your head down without any guilt and live the siesta way of life.

Pingus 2000, one of the most expensive wines in Spain

Posted by julia on 19 Feb 2007 | Tagged as: Delicatessen

fondo-pingus-2000.jpg

We all know Spain has one of the best wines in the world and the Pingus 2000 could the most expensive of these wines.  At a price of around 750 and 900 euros a bottle, not too many will be able to savour this specialty but if your do get the chance you should go all out and give it a tasting.

Created by the Dutch Peter Sisseck using only traditional methods he has come up with a decadent taste. Rich in color by the use of black cherries, and a touch of red and black fruits from the forest. Robert Paker, one of the best known connoisseurs in wine has given the Pingus 2000 an excellent rating.

So all we have left to do is give it a try and see for ourselves why the wine from this country is as good as its name.

Top 5 reasons to live in Spain

Posted by julia on 14 Feb 2007 | Tagged as: Spain, Fiesta!

I could think of many more but I decided to ask around and find out why some foreigners live in Spain. Here are the top 5 reasons given to me as to why the felt that Spain offered them everything they needed and wanted.

The number one reason many people move to this part of the world is the climate. The Mediterranean region has one of the best climates in any part of the world. In parts such as Alicante, Benidorm, Murcia, Malaga and the southern part of the country the sun shines almost 365 days a year.

The second reason for leaving everything behind and moving to Spain is the gastronomy. Many people feel the healthy lifestyle and fresh foods offered within the different regions, specially the Mediterranean diet as well as the grand selection of wines and cavas are well worth the move.

The third top reason given was that of the language. Many people came as students to Spain and just never left. They feel Spanish is one of the most important languages in the world and want to be part of the Spanish society.

The fourth reason given was the culture of the country. Spain has a little of everything to offer, from the mountains to the beach and cold and warm weather even different dialects spoken in different areas. It makes it as if you are living in many different countries in one.

And the last reason given is the people. Spanish people are warm, friendly and courteous.

So there you have it, in a nutshell. Are you ready to give it a try?
