Merida Roman Theater and Amphitheater

Posted by julia on 19 Jul 2007 | Tagged as: cities to visit, monuments

By looking at this picture you would think this is somewhere other than in Spain. But trust me this is Spain, Merida to be exact. This very special Roman theater can be traced back to 16/15 B.C. while the amphitheater is right next to it connected by an under the road tunnel which passes through a museum.

Just imagine what happened in these huge arena, gladiators fighting animals, all for show. With the passage of time water damage and natural disasters deteriorated these two theaters that eventually became the source for raw material to help build other buildings.

A must see when in Spain, along with everything else you need to see.

A great escape to Menorca

Posted by julia on 13 Jul 2007 | Tagged as: cities to visit, beaches, outdoor activites

Ok, if you come to Spain and want to really have a relaxing time while enjoying all the beautiful views a beach town could offer you, Menorca is the place. The Menorca Wep Page is awasome, with a guide to practically every little city around, restaurants, things to do. It is one of the most complete guides I have ever seen on the internet.

Menorca is known as the windy island. It was called Menorca, the “minor” island, by the Romans, Mallorca being the mother island. The beaches that surround this little island are covered in white sand and are mostly surrounded by pine woods with rich vegetation. A great place for a great time.

Barcelona Horse day trip

Posted by julia on 05 Jul 2007 | Tagged as: cities to visit, outdoor activites

Do you love horses? Do you love Spain? Great then you will enjoy a great day trip in through the hills of Montserrat which are one of the most beautiful sites around. Near Barcelona in the Catalonia region you will find what you are looking for. Rolling hills and mountains that will take you through paths of wonder.

Even if you are not an expert horse rider you can book a day trip excursion which starts you off with a mini instruction class so you can be sure you are safe. You are then lead through the valleys where you can ride or walk along some of the way. The horses are all trained and very happy natured so you need to worry. The tour is finished off with a great lunch or dinner in a local restaurant.

Looking for a hotel for a friend who was coming to Seville for a visit I came across Hacienda de Oran and it looked beautiful. I booked it for her and hoped she would enjoy. As soon as she got there she quickly called me to thank me for choosing such a marvelous hotel.

She said it was like being in a little paradise with gardens that went on forever and courtyards so magnificent. I can’t wait to go there on my next viist to Seville and experience the same for myself.

Segovia, more than the aqueduct

Posted by julia on 20 Jun 2007 | Tagged as: Delicatessen, museums, cities to visit, monuments

segovia.jpg

If you are in Madrid a quick day trip to Segovia is a must. You can easily take a bus to Segovia where you will enjoy all the sites along the way. Once there you will be in total wonder of this small little city with so much to see.

The first and most amazing site is the Roman aqueduct which is the largest and best preserved of its kind anywhere, it served as the mintmark on all coins struck in the city from 1455 to 1864. There is the Alcazar castle which some say was the source of inspiration for Walt Disney.  The 16th century cathedral is a truly amazing site and on and on with beautiful architecture all around.

Once there you will need to eat the typical dish the “cochinillo suckling pig” which is so moist it is cut in pieces with a plate and then the plate is thrown off to the side.. A perfect day in Spain.

When I read resort & Spa ,that is all I need to get excited about summer vacations. Taking a look at hotel options I found what looks to be a very exclusive and luxurious five hotel situated in Girona. It is called Alva Park and Resort and it looks amazing and luxurious.

All the rooms are beautifully decorated with a touch of Egyptian elements, a plasma TV, DVE, and of course a Jacuzzi. This resort situated 50 meters from the beautiful beaches of Girona seems like a luscious getaway in north of Spain.
