Serrano Ham Croquetes

Posted by julia on 07 May 2007 | Tagged as: Spain, Delicatessen

Here you go, another Spanish recepie for you to enjoy. I know, I know I have been giving you hard ones, but I have confidence in all of you and I know you can do it.

    100g Serrano Ham
    75g plain flour
    75ml extra virgin olive oil
    1 litre milk
    Salt
    Nutmeg (optional)
    2 eggs
    Breadcrumbs
    Olive oil (for frying)

How to cook:

  • Chop the ham into small pieces
  • Warm the milk
  • In a frying pan, but not on the heat, mix the flour with the oil and very slowly add the warm milk stirring all the time.
  • Place the pan over a medium heat and add the ham, a pinch of salt and a pinch of nutmeg. Keep stirring until the mixture thickens and begins to come away from the edges of the pan.
  • Transfer the mixture into a square dish and leave to cool.
  • When the mixture is cool, cut into equal sized pieces.
  • Mould the pieces into oval shapes and dip each piece into the beaten eggs and then roll in the breadcrumbs.
  • Heat the olive oil in a pan (you need enough oil to cover the croquettes) and fry until golden brown.

Spain will have a satellite observation system by 2010

Posted by julia on 20 Apr 2007 | Tagged as: Spain

Talk about high tech , the Spaniards are really forward thinking people and at the same time problem solvers. They are to become the first country in Europe to own a satellite system. The Canary Island newspaper reported last week that the Ministries for Defense and Industry will collaborate on a project that will launch two satellites ,(one optical and one radar, connected by a control which will be held in the Maspalomas Space Centre in Gran Canaria) into space for earth observation.

The main reason for this new system will be to hold observations of the Spanish and northern African territory to control illegal immigration. This will be a primary military tool with some civil users at hand. This great little tool will have a price tag of about 325 million € and should be up and running by 2010.

Travel Spain via Google Maps

I always knew about Google maps but I never realized how useful they could really be when you are planning a road trip to a city you have never been to before. If you have never tried it and you are thinking of coming to Spain and renting a car so you can experience Spanish routes, I think you should give this great tool a try.

You can type basically any address and boom it takes you directly there. You can plan your road trip and map out everywhere you want to go. You can save your very own routes of maps and print them out. What a great idea, I wish they would have had this when I was a child..all those road trips with my parents, getting lost and not knowing where we were going.

Mister Spain wins World title

Posted by julia on 04 Apr 2007 | Tagged as: Spain

Yes, Spain not only has beautiful women, the men here are also gorgeous and one great example is Juan Garcia Postigo. He is from Malaga and at 25, he has become the most handsome man in the world. His blue eyes and fantastic smile won over the judges and a few women I suspect..me one of them..in the Mr. World contest celebrated in China last week.

So, all you ladies out there who just needed one more reason to visit Spain, here you have it. I´m sure there are more men like him here, you just need to come and look for them.
