Living in Spain with children

Posted by julia on 01 Mar 2007 | Tagged as: Spain

I was reading an article the other day that stated that Spain was number 5 in a list of European countries as far as the quality of life for children and I agree. I was born in Madrid but lived most of my life in the United States and have recently relocated back to my home country. The decision to move to Spain was for our children. Spain offers them a great education, great gastronomy, parks, festivals and a culture that can´t be beat.

Children in Spain are respected and taken care of like no one else. Everything is made with them in mind and they are allowed to express their freedom while knowing the are part of a great community that is fast growing. We love it here and think it is the best thing we have done for our children.

Posted by julia on 27 Feb 2007 | Tagged as: Spain

Well, our beloved Penelope did not win the coveted Oscar we all wished for her, but the talent of other Spaniards was recognized at the 79th Academy Awards ceremony.

The movie Pan’s Labyrinth did not win an award either but Guillermo del Toro, the talented creator was very emotional as he watched David Martí and Montse Ribé receive the Best Makeup Oscar as well as Pilar Revuelta and Eugenio Caballero win for the Best Art Direction .

The film which was produced in Spain by Madrid-based Estudios Picasso, and the collaboration of private broadcaster Telecinco is a success in the Spaniards eyes as I’m sure the rest of the world.

Terra Mitica Theme Park in Benidorm a wild time

Posted by julia on 23 Feb 2007 | Tagged as: cities to visit, parks, Spain

Yes, Spain has beaches, monuments, castles, museums, good food, great wine and it also has great theme parks. One of my favorites is Terra Mitica located in warm and sunny Benidorm. This Themed park offers great thrilling rides for old and young alike. The park is divided into several themed areas such as Rome, Iberia, Egypt, Greece and the Islands.

With more than 50 daily shows this is an entertaining place. The rides are one of a kind and the entire family could enjoy every part of this park. Located in Benidorm, you are right in the center of one of the best beach towns around where day time as well as night time offers you a variety of events.

Ciudad de la Luz, Movie Studios in Alicante

Posted by julia on 23 Feb 2007 | Tagged as: Spain

Spain can now say they are in the movie business with Ciudad de la Luz Movie Studios located in Alicante. It is one of the most exciting projects being offered by the Valencian Community. The approximately 740 acres of lot designed by Gary Bastian, is said to become the most complete movie and television complex in Europe.

The studio is projected to be complete by the fall of 2007 but is in full working conditions at the moment with all state of the art equipment. Productions Aguamarga, other than overseeing the completions of future phases and running the operations of the complex, is determined to provide a complete production support mechanism, including Government alliances, to welcome world wide productions.

The las movie to shoot here is the movie Asterix and the Olympic Games starring Gerard Depardieu. Other productions last year have been the Ray Loriga’s Teresa, Muerte y Vida, Antonio Bandera’s El Camino de los Ingleses and Menno Meyjes’ Manolete among others. This year with the complex continuing to develop, we can expect more and more Hollywood types to start arriving and enjoying the amazing facilities.

The Siesta way of life

Posted by julia on 20 Feb 2007 | Tagged as: Spain

What is a siesta? Well, there is the general definition of the word, but what does it really mean to the Spaniards. Spain is a country full of great customs, all of them in one way or another deal with food, parties, and yes the best one of all the SIESTA.

A siesta is referred to the time in the middle of the day usually right after lunch time, where people lay down, close their eyes and rest for about an hour to get ready for the rest of the day. One of the best inventions ever. It simply means taking time off to relax and forget about the world while our bodies recover from the days stress.

From the outside world, this might be looked at as lazy and not productive but many studies show that it is recommended to rest in the middle of the day. A siesta could help reduce cardiovascular diseases, and highly reduces stress.

So, go ahead put your head down without any guilt and live the siesta way of life.

Top 5 reasons to live in Spain

Posted by julia on 14 Feb 2007 | Tagged as: Fiesta!, Spain

I could think of many more but I decided to ask around and find out why some foreigners live in Spain. Here are the top 5 reasons given to me as to why the felt that Spain offered them everything they needed and wanted.

The number one reason many people move to this part of the world is the climate. The Mediterranean region has one of the best climates in any part of the world. In parts such as Alicante, Benidorm, Murcia, Malaga and the southern part of the country the sun shines almost 365 days a year.

The second reason for leaving everything behind and moving to Spain is the gastronomy. Many people feel the healthy lifestyle and fresh foods offered within the different regions, specially the Mediterranean diet as well as the grand selection of wines and cavas are well worth the move.

The third top reason given was that of the language. Many people came as students to Spain and just never left. They feel Spanish is one of the most important languages in the world and want to be part of the Spanish society.

The fourth reason given was the culture of the country. Spain has a little of everything to offer, from the mountains to the beach and cold and warm weather even different dialects spoken in different areas. It makes it as if you are living in many different countries in one.

And the last reason given is the people. Spanish people are warm, friendly and courteous.

So there you have it, in a nutshell. Are you ready to give it a try?

Relax Life in Spain

Posted by julia on 01 Feb 2007 | Tagged as: cities to visit, Spain

Spain is not only nice to visit it is great to live in. Every year, more and more retired couples come and join in the Spanish way of life, taking in all the culture, great weather and gastronomy that this extroverted country has to offer.

The Costa Blanca and Costa de Sol are two of the most popular communities where the good life can be seen.  Some might think Spain is full of tapas bars, bull rings or museums, but it is much more than that.  The beautiful coast life is something everyone should experience.
