Oddly enough some people whose looks were very much Spanish and had Spanish names had no idea how to speak the language. One of the hardest things about learning a new language and trying to communicate with the natives is trying to decipher their slang words. Spanish people have many of these colloquial words they like to throw around with new ones being invented daily. Well, the Spanish Teaching Web site has decided to capture these little phrases and post them so that all of you no Spanish speakers could start to get a handle on this “en un pis pas” (right away) see, there you go…

I´m always in search for the perfect magical book that will help my husband finally learn the Spanish language or at least understand a little of what people around him are taking about. Learning Spanish is not only learning proper grammar and vocabulary, there are certain slang phrases that you can´t learn from a school book.

I found this great book called in the garlic (en el ajo) a slang saying that means being “in” Knowing the inside of things, being part of it. It has all the slang terminology you need to become a proper Spaniard and start be able to “estar en el ajo”

Ok, so all I do is talk about food lately, It´s either that time of day or the aromas that enter my space as I write that inspire me to not only write about food but also enjoy it. Although, I´m very sad to say I´m no chef, not even a cook really, ok, fine I could barely boil water.. there! nevertheless, I love to eat, and eat well.

A friend suggested I take up a cooking class, so I could at least make an attempt to satisfy my culinary taste. I´m not really sure about that yet, but it got me thinking that anyone can take a cooking class while here is Spain, what a better way to take back home the taste of this country.

There are several companies such as cellartours and the international kitchen that actually offer cooking classes tours, incredible. So, if you are a little bit more adventurous than me in this category, go for it and let me know how it turns out.

Ok, so you´ve been reading this blog for a while now and you are getting up the nerve to take the plunge and visit Spain but you want to brush up on your Spanish a little before you get here, you don´t have much time and you just want to learn the basics. Well, CoffeBreak Spanish (cute name) offers you quick Spanish lessons via podcast and other material so you can learn Spanish while you sit in front of your computer, and I guess drinking coffle at the same time.

Well, I´m fluent in Spanish but I signed up my American husband to see if it could help speed up his Spanish learning process (so far two years in Spain and very little español) and so far so good, lets see if he keeps it up and is able to actually order a “cafe con leche”.
