Talk about high tech , the Spaniards are really forward thinking people and at the same time problem solvers. They are to become the first country in Europe to own a satellite system. The Canary Island newspaper reported last week that the Ministries for Defense and Industry will collaborate on a project that will launch two satellites ,(one optical and one radar, connected by a control which will be held in the Maspalomas Space Centre in Gran Canaria) into space for earth observation.

The main reason for this new system will be to hold observations of the Spanish and northern African territory to control illegal immigration. This will be a primary military tool with some civil users at hand. This great little tool will have a price tag of about 325 million € and should be up and running by 2010.
